This guide will show you how to start your Fomostream streaming journey. Fomostream supports all major streaming applications but our preference is OBS broadcaster
This article handles the OBS Desktop setup steps.
First, ensure you're logged into the Fomostream.io account you want to stream from and go to your Streaming settings.
You'll use the Stream URL and Stream Key information in the next step.
Here's how to add your stream key and stream URL to OBS.
Open OBS.
Click File.
Click Settings.
Click Stream.
Change the service to Custom....
Paste the Server URL from your Fomostream Settings Page.
Paste the Stream Key from your Fomostream Settings Page.
Press Apply.
To ensure the best possible streaming experience, check your internet connection's maximum upload speed and make sure your bitrate settings don't exceed it.
To change your output settings, click the Output option from the OBS Settings page.

Rescale Output: Only enable this option if your base resolution is greater than 1920x1080.
Bitrate: Fomostream supports a bitrate of up to 8,000kbps—check your internet connection's maximum upload speed.
CPU Usage Preset: Changing your preset will affect your CPU usage when streaming.

Rescale Output: Only enable this option if your base resolution is greater than 1920x1080.
Now that your streaming settings are saved, go to your Fomstream Streaming settings to set your Stream Title and Category.
Go to your Streaming settings.
Enter Stream Title..
Press Save.
Choose a stream category (currently “game” or “just Chatting”)
Click Save.
💡 If you don't set your stream title and category, your livestream won't start correctly.
You're now ready to start your live stream! Press the Start Streaming button from your OBS software.
To end your live stream, click the Stop Streaming button in your OBS software. Fomostream will then show your viewers an offline banner, and your replay will be saved to your channel page.
What is the maximum audio bitrate I can use? Please ensure you only select 'Stereo' at a maximum of 48kHz.
What should I do if my stream is lagging? If you're noticing that your stream is stuttering or lagging, try adjusting the following settings:
Bitrate: Try reducing your bitrate by 1,000kbps until your stream is lag-free.
Preset: Try using a less demanding preset, such as 'Superfast for x264' or 'P3: Fast for AMD HW H.264 & NVIDIA NVENC H.264'.
Does Fomostream support Variable Bitrate (VBR)? Unfortunately not. You must set your streaming software to CBR. If you're using a Mac to stream, change your encoder to x264 to enable this option.
What is the maximum resolution Fomostream supports? Fomostream currently supports a maximum resolution of 1920x1080. Ensure your Rescale Output is checked at this value.
What is the maximum bitrate Fomostream supports? Fomostream currently supports a maximum bitrate of 8,000kbps.
What is the maximum FPS Fomostream supports? Fomostream supports a maximum of 60fps.
Does Fomostream support H.265 encoding? Fomostream currently only supports X264 or H.264 encoding.
Can I stream from my Mac to Fomostream? Absolutely! Be sure to select the x264 encoder to enable CBR.
How do I regenerate or reset my Fomostream Stream Key? To regenerate your stream key, visit your Streaming settings and click the Reset Key button.
💡 If you reset your stream key on the Fomostream streaming page, you must update your streaming software with the new key in OBS.
